Austria

CIRSE Fellowship report: Mohamed El-Diasty

Dr. Mohamed El-Diasty chose to pursue his fellowship at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria. There he observed a variety of procedures, including vascular, venous, and oncological interventions, alongside Profs. Martin Funovic, Christian Loewe, and Florian Wolf.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Edward Johnston

Dr. Edward Johnston, an interventional oncology consultant at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, used his fellowship grant to travel to Medical University Innsbruck in Austria to learn from Prof. Reto Bale and his team.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Maciej Szmygin

France

CIRSE Fellowship report: Jakub Franke

Dr. Jakub Franke travelled from Poland to Institute Gustave Roussy in Villejuif, France to observe and assist in cancer care procedures, including robot-assisted ablation and other various treatment modalities under the supervision of Dr. Frédéric Deschamps.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Hans-Jonas Meyer

Dr. Hans-Jonas Meyer of University Hospital of Leipzig traveled to the Nouvel Hôpital Civil at the University of Strasbourg to complete his fellowship under the guidance of Prof. Afshin Gangi.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Dejan Taneski

Dr. Dejan Taneski took up his fellowship in the Neuroradiological Clinic at Klinikum Stuttgart under the mentorship of Dr. Hans Henkes to gain further exposure to neurovascular procedures.

Great Britain

CIRSE Fellowship report: Ioanna Thanou

Dr. Ioanna Thanou, a trainee at the Naval Hospital of Athens, spent one month under the mentorship of Prof. Nicos Fotiadis at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. There Dr. Thanou gained experience in a full spectrum of interventional oncology.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Stefanie Meiler

Dr. Stefanie Meiler completed her CIRSE fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland under the supervision of Dr. Menelaos Philippou. She took a wealth of new experiences and knowledge back to her home institution in Germany.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Murat Aşık

Dr. Murat Aşık took up his CIRSE fellowship at North Bristol NHS Trust, Southmead Hospital, under the mentorship of Dr. Peter Mezes. Over the course of one month, Dr. Aşık observed procedures and engaged in case discussions that strengthened his clinical confidence.

Dr. Ali Cantürk, from the Department of Radiology, Abdülhamid Han Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, spent one month at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London under the mentorship of Prof. Nicos Fotiadis.

Dr. Muhammed Said Beşler from Istanbul, Türkiye, used his CIRSE Fellowship Grant to support a one-month stay at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London, where he learned from Dr. Joo-Young Chun and the team working there.

Dr. Agboola Said Ajibola, an interventional radiologist from Nigeria, travelled to Galway, Ireland to complete his CIRSE fellowship at Galway University Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Cormac O’Brien.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Petr Vorel

Dr. Petr Vorel of University Hospital Linköping in Sweden traveled to Galway to complete his fellowship at Galway University Hospital, where he learned from Dr. Cormac O’Brien and the team there.

Dr. Ana Isabel Simões Ferreira of Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon traveled to Galway, Ireland, to complete her fellowship in Dr. Gerry O’Sullivan’s IR department.

Italy

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Aaron Taylor

Dr. Aaron Taylor conducted his fellowship at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), a world-renowned cancer treatment hospital in Milan, Italy. There he gained deeper understanding of thermal ablation techniques under the supervision of Dr. Franco Orsi.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Ali Dablan

Dr. Ali Dablan completed his CIRSE fellowship at Ospedale Antonio Cardarelli in Naples under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Giurazza. With technical development training and exposure to procedures across subfields, he will return to Istanbul with enriched knowledge.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Evangelia Christodoulou

At the Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milan, Italy, Dr. Evangelia Christodoulou observed and participated in a wide range of procedures, with a focus on peripheral IR, under the supervision of Dr. Anna Maria Ierardi.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Américo Mota

Dr. Américo Mota travelled for 15 hours from his home country of Brazil to the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia in Milan. There he gained further training in tumour ablations and cryoablation in oncology patients under the supervision of Dr. Franco Orsi.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Andras Bibok

Dr. Andras Bibok completed his CIRSE Fellowship at the Antonio Cardarelli Hospital in Naples, Italy, where he observed a range of non-oncologic and oncologic interventional radiology procedures under the leadership of Prof. Rafaela Niola and Dr. Francesco Giurazza.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Andrzej Lejawka

Dr. Andrzej Lejawka of Nottingham University hospital traveled to the European Institute of Oncology in Milan to complete a one-month fellowship alongside Dr. Franco Orsi and his team.

Portugal

CIRSE Fellowship report: Clarissa Hosse

For one month, Dr. Clarissa Hosse left her home institution, Charité – Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany, behind to conduct her CIRSE Fellowship at Curry Cabral Hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. There she gained insights into different areas of interventional radiology, including workflow, teamwork, procedural techniques, and training culture.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Marawan El Farargy

A consultant interventional radiologist in vascular and non-vascular intervention in the UK, Dr. Marawan El Farargy deepened his knowledge and sharpened his skillset at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Lisboa Central (CHULC) in Lisbon, Portugal under the supervision of Prof. Tiago Bilhim.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Nauris Zdanovskis

Dr. Nauris Zdanovskis spent one month at Curry Cabral Hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, as a CIRSE Fellow under the supervision of Prof. Tiago Bilhim.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Albert Leka

Dr. Albert Leka, a diagnostic radiologist from Klinika San Luka in Lezhe, Albania, used his fellowship grant to travel to Hospital Curry Cabral in Lisbon to learn from Prof. Tiago Bilhim and his team.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Rengarajan Rajagopal

Dr. Rengarajan Rajagopal of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur, traveled Portugal for an observership alongside Dr. Tiago Bilhim and his team at Hospital Curry Cabral.

Switzerland

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Nagendra Vadlamudi

Traveling from Jaipur, India to the Medizinisch Radiologisches Institut in Zurich, Switzerland, Dr. Nagendra Vadlamudi spent three months gaining hands-on experience in embolization and more under the supervision of Prof. Christoph Binkert.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Dr. Ornella Moschovaki-Zeiger

Dr. Ornella Moschovaki-Zeiger of the 2nd Department of Radiology at the University General Hospital “ATTIKON” in Athens traveled to Zurich to complete her fellowship alongside Prof. Christoph Binkert at the Medizinisch Radiologisches Institut (MRI) Outpatient Interventional Radiology (IR) Clinic.

CIRSE Fellowship report: Antonios Michailidis

At the Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève (HUG) in Switzerland, Dr. Antonios Michailidis broadened his clinical and technical experience, including gaining familiarity with paediatric IR, under the supervision of Prof. Alexis Ricoeur.

Dr. Lemuel Marquez Narcise traveled from his home institution in the Philippines to Switzerland to undertake his one-month fellowship at the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG) under the supervision of Dr. Alexis Ricoeur.
