European Certification for Endovascular Specialists

Candidates must be European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) holders and must have passed the EBIR at least two years prior to applying for this certification. During this time, the candidate must have been actively practicing interventional radiology and endovascular therapy.

Clinical competency checklist

As part of the application form, the checklist details the candidates’ clinical competency and confirms that they have seen at least 200 patients in-clinic since successfully completing the EBIR examination.

Education

Candidates must have attended a minimum of three CIRSE Live or Online Educational Events in the 5 years prior to application.

Furthermore, candidates are required to have successfully completed at least three of the below listed CIRSE Academy Courses*:

• Acute and chronic mesenteric ischaemia
• Central venous access in children
• Clinical practice in endovascular intervention
• Crural revascularisation
• Endovascular therapy below the knee and pedal
• IR management of complications post-kidney transplantation
• Management of acute arterial gastro-intestinal haemorrhage
• Management of acute lower limb arterial occlusion
• Management of the failing haemodialysis access
• Management of upper extremity arterial disease
• Priapism
• Specialist EVAR
• Specialist TEVAR
• Stroke thrombectomy
• Thoraco-abdominal aneurysms

Membership

Applicants must be CIRSE members in good standing.

Candidates are required to have completed at least 250 advanced IR procedures (in addition to the 150 vascular EBIR-required procedures, for a detailed list of the procedures please click here) as primary operator. These advanced procedures may be solely either venous or arterial, or a combination of both. This must be verified by the Authorised Representative as listed in the application form.

The required 250 procedures are to be completed since the candidate successfully passed the EBIR, and prior to application submission.

The application fee for the EBIR specialist certification is €250.

Application review times can vary, but most candidates will be confirmed within six weeks of their application being submitted. In case the application form is not complete, candidates can expect to be contacted to provide the required information.
