Thyroid thermal ablation, Milan/IT, October 2-3, 2025

Thyroid nodules are very common in the general population. Usually, they are asymptomatic, benign at cytology, and can be followed by observation alone in the majority of cases. Infrequently, benign nodules can grow and cause symptoms, or be malignant, thus requiring treatment. Nowadays, minimally invasive image-guided treatments such as thermal ablation with radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation (MWA), percutaneous laser ablation (LA), or percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) have been proven to be an effective and safe treatment method and represent a valid alternative to surgery in selected cases of benign and malignant thyroid nodules.

This course will discuss thyroid general anatomy, pathophysiology of thyroid nodule formation, and review the most widely adopted minimally invasive treatments, including indications and techniques. Extensive hands-on workshops on various modalities, including laser, radiofrequency, and microwave, will provide delegates with the opportunity to handle current devices and learn about the most advanced technologies in thyroid ablation.

Who should attend?

Organized and led by renowned experts, this ESIR course on thyroid ablation gives experienced interventional radiologists the opportunity to fine-tune their practical skills and learn more about current treatment options for this difficult disease.
