CIRSE Curricula
CIRSE has a long-standing commitment to supporting IR education and making resources available to interventional radiologists. The CIRSE curriculums have played an important role in this framework by establishing high-quality standards in the training and practice of IRs throughout Europe.
These curriculums are designed to support IRs throughout their careers and are regularly revised by IR experts to ensure that they reflect the most up-to-date techniques and technologies.
European Curriculum and Syllabus for IR –
Third edition
Find out what is new about the third edition of the European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Radiology. Dr. Raman Uberoi, Prof. Laura Crocetti, Prof. Michael J. Lee, Dr. José Urbano García, and Prof. Christoph Binkert talk about its role in preparing for the EBIR examination and what its recognition as a European Training Requirements document by the UEMS means for the field of IR. This new version will be the basis for the EBIR examination from March 2024 onwards.
Interventional Radiology Curriculum for Medical Students
In recognition of the rapid growth that IR has experienced in recent years, CIRSE revised and developed an updated version of third edition of the Interventional Radiology Curriculum for Medical Students.
This curriculum is designed to make medical students aware of the ever-increasing role of interventional radiology in hospital medicine. The curriculum highlights the main areas of IR and outlines a variety of the most common clinical conditions routinely handled by interventional radiologists. It aims to support medical students planning on pursuing a career in IR and those who may participate in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in the future.
European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Radiology
This curriculum provides a standardised interventional radiology training guideline that covers: objectives, learning methods, outcomes, supervision and assessment. It also includes a syllabus which aims to facilitate the development of the clinical and technical skills necessary to carry out safe and effective IR treatments.
The European Curriculum and Syllabus serves as the basis for the UEMS-CESMA-endorsed European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) Examination, which allows physicians who have followed the objectives of the curriculum and mastered the content of the syllabus to prove their professional competence.
This document was recently updated and approved as an ETR (European Training Requirement) for IR by the UEMS. The third edition of the European Curriculum and Syllabus for IR will serve as the basis for the EBIR exam from the March 2024 examination onwards.
German, Spanish, and Italian versions of the third edition of the curriculum are available here.
European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Oncology
This curriculum is a supplementary document that is dedicated specifically to interventional oncology and is intended to be used in conjunction with the European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Radiology. It provides recommendations and guidelines for the knowledge, skills and competencies essential to attaining proficiency in IO and providing optimal IO care to cancer patients.
