Portovenous interventions

Thursday, December 17, 2026, 17:00 – 18:30 CET

Portovenous interventions remain among the most technically and clinically demanding procedures in interventional radiology. From TIPS and portal vein embolization to the management of portal vein thrombosis, successful outcomes require both procedural expertise and close multidisciplinary collaboration between interventional radiologists, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, and surgeons.

This CIRSE webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest approaches and evolving strategies in portovenous interventions, including TIPS in adults and children, portal vein embolization, portal vein thrombosis management, and alternatives to TIPS. The topic is especially relevant as TIPS is increasingly shifting from a complication-driven intervention to a preventive treatment strategy. Participants will gain practical insights into indications, contraindications, treatment planning, and procedural techniques, while exploring the impact of new devices entering the market in 2026 and addressing the ongoing lack of clear guidelines for portal vein thrombosis management.

Learning objectives

  • Learn the basics of TIPS in adults and children
