Portovenous interventions of the liver, Düsseldorf/DE, June 3-4, 2027
Portovenous interventions like TIPS (transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) and portal vein embolization are one of the most challenging procedures in adults and children performed by interventional radiologists, both from a technical and clinical point of view. To ensure the procedure’s success, strong cooperation between interventional radiologists, gastroenterologists, hepatologists and surgeons is vital. This ESIR course will equip its participants with the necessary technical knowledge about TIPS in adults and children, Portal vein thrombosis and portal vein embolization and give them a thorough understanding of the clinical aspects involved, including indications, contraindications and managerial considerations. A select multidisciplinary faculty will provide attendees with useful knowledge from their respective fields. Course content will cover theoretical and practical knowledge with hands-on device trainings including the range of devices used for performing TIPS in adults and children, thrombectomy recanalization catheters for portal vein thrombosis and portal vein embolization procedures.
What will you learn?
- Patient selection for TIPS procedures in adults and children
- Technical features of how to perform TIPS in adults and children
- Management of complex diseases: hepatorenal syndrome, Budd-Chiari syndrome, bilharzia

- How to deal with portal vein cavernomatosis and occlusion
- How to deal with TIPS occlusions in adults and children
- Deep dive into management and treatment of portal vein thrombosis
- Post-procedural management after TIPS and portal vein thrombosis
- Portal vein embolization: when and how to do it
- Case discussions with experts
- Opportunity to explore the technical characteristics of various devices with simulators
