About the EBIR exam

The European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) is a voluntary supplemental examination designed to evaluate interventional radiologists on the clinical and technical knowledge necessary to carry out safe and effective treatments for patients. Although the EBIR certification does not replace national training or licensing, it allows IRs to certify their expertise and demonstrate their ongoing commitment to pursuing a career in this rapidly evolving discipline.

The EBIR examination is based on the European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Radiology.

This document has received the endorsement of many national and regional societies including the ESR (European Society of Radiology). CIRSE is also proud to announce that the EBIR examination obtained UEMS-CESMA recognition in March 2017.

This exercise has been an illuminating and formative experience for the UEMS-CESMA appraisal officials, who have been most positively impressed by the thorough preparation and procedures of the EBIR Examination.
