Therapies and Treatment
In 2023, CIRSE presented a new vision for the future of interventional radiology, consisting of three different phases, each with a different priority. Following the successful completion of the two-year focus on clinical services and patient care, the second phase of the CIRSE vision was initiated through the Therapies and Treatment Task Force.
This task force, established in 2025 through an open call for applications, will work towards implementing the second priority of the CIRSE vision from different angles, including the best department setup and staffing; identifying challenges and possible solutions for full-time IR work; patient safety aspects; as well as communication and awareness activities.
Mastering challenges video series
The mastering challenges video series showcases examples of interventional radiologists overcoming challenges in their clinical environments and strengthening interventional radiology practice. Across these videos, prominent interventionists share concrete experiences of barriers they encountered and the approaches that helped them achieve meaningful progress.
Through short and accessible stories, the series provides practical insights into different pathways towards more established IR practice. By sharing these experiences with the wider IR community, the task force aims to encourage reflection, peer learning, and the exchange of ideas that can help others address similar challenges in their own hospitals and centres.

Taking responsibility for the patient pathway
In this video, Prof. Andreas Mahnken explores why taking responsibility for the entire patient pathway is essential for the future of interventional radiology, highlighting the importance of interventionists going beyond the procedure itself and embracing their role as full clinicians, providing continuity of care from patient assessment, and treatment planning through to follow-up.
