Chronic venous insufficiency treatment for interventional radiologists

Thursday, November 12, 2026, 17:00-18:30 CET

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a common and often under-recognised condition that can significantly affect patients’ quality of life. With the continued development of minimally invasive therapies, interventional radiologists are playing an increasingly important role in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease. Thanks to their expertise in imaging, venous haemodynamics, and image-guided interventions, interventional radiologists possess the necessary skills for the comprehensive clinical and therapeutic management of the full spectrum of venous insufficiency. This CIRSE webinar will provide a practical overview of CVI management, from understanding lower limb venous haemodynamics to establishing structured clinical pathways and dedicated CVI clinics.

The session will cover key treatment approaches, including the hemodynamic CHIVA strategy, thermal and non-thermal ablative techniques, and sclerotherapy. Speakers will discuss patient selection, duplex ultrasound assessment, and vein mapping, as well as the prevention and management of complications associated with CVI treatment. Through expert insights and discussion, the webinar will highlight practical strategies to support safe and effective care for patients with venous insufficiency, while demonstrating the central role of interventional radiology in delivering comprehensive venous care.

Learning objectives

  • To understand lower limb venous haemodynamics and its implications in chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).
  • To know the treatment options and strategies to manage CVI.
  • To know how to manage complications.
