Frequently asked questions

What is included in the examination fee?

The examination fee covers the examination costs only. If your examination is held on the occasion of a conference, the conference fee is not included. Please note that it is not mandatory to register for the conference in order to take the examination being held on that occasion.

Do I need to submit a log book?

Log books are submitted on request only. You are therefore not expected to submit a log book unless you are contacted by the EBIR examination services and asked to do so.

I have changed my institution of work since my IR training. Can my current supervisor sign my forms as my authorised representative?

The authorised representative may be any responsible authority as listed in the application documents, provided that they have access to your educational history and can confirm your training and experience.

I am applying for the examination and want to be considered for a specific examination sitting. How do I do this?

After submitting your application, please email the EBIR examination services team at [email protected] within 24 hours and inform them of your preferred sitting. You must state your CIRSE ID number in this correspondence. Please be aware that approved candidates are seated on a first come, first served basis, so we are not able to guarantee a place in a preferred sitting.

How long does it take for my application to be reviewed?

Application review times can vary, but most candidates will be contacted within three weeks of their application being submitted. If further information is requested, candidates can expect to wait an additional 4-6 weeks from the date of submission of the additionally requested information. Fully and correctly completed application forms are unlikely to experience this delay.

How will I receive my examination confirmation?

After your application has been reviewed and approved, your examination confirmation will be sent via email.

I want to be put on a waiting list for a fully-booked examination. How do I do this?

Please inform the EBIR examination services team at [email protected]. You must state your CIRSE ID number in this correspondence. Candidates can only be placed on a waiting list for a fully-booked examination when they are already confirmed for an upcoming exam. Please know that candidates may only be placed on one waiting list at one time.

I need to change my examination date.

If you wish to request a later examination sitting to the one allocated, you must inform the EBIR examination services team at [email protected] within two weeks of the date of your examination confirmation being sent. You must clearly state in the correspondence your CIRSE ID, current confirmed examination, and to which examination you wish to transfer.

Please note that after this two-week period, CIRSE Society will not transfer your examination fee to a later sitting.

Once the exact date of the examination has been confirmed and once you have received notification of your sitting, you will be able to apply for insurance with Europäische Reiseversicherung. Whilst purchasing insurance is optional, it is highly recommended as CIRSE Society strictly do not refund or transfer examination fees.

My examination is being held on the occasion of a conference. Do I need to register for the conference in order to take the examination?

No, candidates are not required to register for this conference in order to sit the examination being held on that occasion.

I am sitting an upcoming examination and need an invitation letter to support my visa application.

Please inform the EBIR examination services at [email protected], stating your CIRSE ID number and the upcoming examination that you are registered for in this correspondence.

Please note that whilst an invitation can be provided on request, CIRSE strictly take no responsibility for candidate visa applications.

I have a special need, disability, or medical condition that may affect my performance during the examination or affect my ability to gain access to the examination venue.

Please inform the EBIR examination services at [email protected], stating your CIRSE ID number and the upcoming examination that you are registered for in this correspondence. The EBIR examination services must be notified at the time of application and no later than four weeks prior to the date of examination. All information provided will be treated as confidential.

When will I get my results?

Results will be sent via email no sooner than eight weeks after the date of examination.

Why does it take at least eight weeks to get my results?

In order to ensure the strict quality of the examination, each examination and each question undergoes extensive analysis post-exam. Due to the level of analysis required to ensure the reliability of candidates results, it takes approximately eight weeks for results to be confirmed.
