Roundtable Discussion:  A new hope for cancer patients

A roundtable discussion took place on September 17, 2013 to mark the progress interventional radiology has made in the care of cancer patients (interventional oncology). Further objectives were to raise the awareness of interventional radiology among doctors, patients and the public in general, as well as to raise the awareness of CIRSE and SERVEI as medical societies.

Crucial issues from procedural outcomes to the interventional radiologist’s role in the multidisciplinary cancer team were considered by medical oncologists, interventional radiologists and the patients themselves. This event was hosted by CIRSE (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe), and saw the participation of SERVEI (Spanish Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology), SEOM (Spanish Society of Medical Oncology), AECC (Spanish Association Against Cancer) and the collaboration of  the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality.
