CIRSE 2024: Submit your abstract for the IR congress of the year!

January 24, 2024

CIRSE 2024 will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from September 14-18. As the world’s premier platform for IR research and knowledge exchange, the CIRSE Annual Congress represents the very best opportunity to share your work with your colleagues on an international stage.

Abstract submission for CIRSE 2024 is currently open and will end on March 21, 2024.

An international platform

CIRSE’s membership has nearly doubled over the last ten years. Abstract submission and congress attendance have been reflective both of this, and of the innovative speed at which IR moves. Interventionalists wishing to share their work with their colleagues will find no platform further-reaching than the CIRSE podium!

“For me, it was an obvious choice to send an abstract to CIRSE.” Says Julien Panneau, who successfully submitted an abstract last year and intends to do so again this year.  “The opportunity to present our work at CIRSE and to attend the congress is a real source of pride, as the CIRSE community is one of the most inspiring and innovative.”

Abstract types

CIRSE accepts submissions of scientific abstracts, FIRST@CIRSE clinical trial abstracts, educational abstracts, case reports, and trial design and methodology abstracts (Click here for full information on all accepted abstract topics and types as well as the corresponding requirements).

“I chose to submit for CIRSE, as I had attended the CIRSE Annual Congress virtually in the past and found the collective projects and presentations inspirational and informative.” Says 2023  scientific abstract submitter, Drew Richardson. “I knew presenting my research at CIRSE would allow me to receive world-class opinions about my project and how to direct my future research. [My advice is to] ask interesting questions. Once you have a question that you and others will want to know, the work becomes fun. Also, realize that people don’t always get abstracts accepted and that’s okay … Make sure to be aware of the submission guidelines, as your abstract will need to be concise to effectively convey your findings!

CIRSE offers a platform for practitioners at all levels of their careers. Alongside abstracts on cutting-edge research and trials, CIRSE also welcomes educational and case report abstracts to be presented as electronic posters.

Successful case report submitter Poorvi Malik told us “The CIRSE Annual Congress is one of the most prestigious interventional radiology conferences in the world, with an array of multiple hands-on workshops to basic courses with experts in their field covering nearly all aspects of interventions. This motivated me to submit an abstract and attend the conference in person. While submitting a case report, make sure the selected case is distinctive in some aspect, for e.g. a new technique/approach, use of devices, etc. Always mention a clear and structured approach to your case, for easier understanding and better representation.

Opportunities for young IRs

Trainees and students should not shy away from submitting an abstract!

With the IR Trainee Support Programme, CIRSE Junior members who have submitted an abstract for CIRSE 2024 as a first or presenting author and have submitted their application to the Trainee Support Programme can attend CIRSE 2024 free of charge.

Students attending the congress for the 15th edition of the CIRSE Student Programme can also submit their abstracts for a chance to present their work on stage. Six students whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to present their work to their peers at the “Students on stage” session.

Gain recognition for your work

Beyond the opportunity to present your work on stage or via an electronic poster, all accepted abstracts for CIRSE 2024 will be published in a special supplement of CVIR, the longest-running journal in the field of vascular and interventional radiology.

Electronic posters will be considered for the Poster Awards, which are selected by the CIRSE Scientific Programme Committee in advance of the meeting. All poster award winners will receive a certificate, an invitation to submit a manuscript to CVIR, and will be published on CIRSE’s social media. Additionally, the poster receiving the Magna Cum Laude award will receive free registration for an upcoming CIRSE congress and the opportunity to participate in an interview for CIRSE Insider.

After the congress, one winner will be selected for the Best Scientific Paper Award as chosen by CIRSE 2024 congress attendees and the Scientific Programme Committee. The winner will be invited to submit a manuscript to CVIR, receive free registration for a CIRSE 2024 or 2025 congress of their choice, and be interviewed for CIRSE Insider.
