Peripheral Vascular Embolization Research Competition

Given the potential of peripheral vascular embolization for managing complex vascular issues, CIRSE seeks to promote research that enhances understanding, improves clinical practice, and drives the development of safer, more effective embolization techniques. CIRSE therefore invited all interested researchers and clinicians to submit their proposals for original research exploring new frontiers in embolization procedures, techniques, treatment efficacy, and patient outcomes through this newly created initiative supported by an educational grant by Guerbet.

The competition was open for pre-clinical and clinical study proposals on a peripheral vascular embolization topic using Lipiodol.

Out of 48 submissions, the two outstanding proposals were selected and will be awarded a research grant of €40,000 each to further their work and advance peripheral vascular embolization.

The winners are:
Research proposal: Global MSK Embolization Registry (GEMS)
Dr. Osman Ahmed (University of Chicago, Chicago, IL/US)

Research proposal: Macrophage response to genicular artery embolization using Lipiojoint in knee osteoarthritis
Dr. Lynn Jeanette Savic (Universitätsmedizin Charité Berlin, Berlin/DE)

Thank you to all who submitted proposals!
