Essentials of embolization: Liquid and particles, Strasbourg/FR, November 5-6, 2026
Embolization, a minimally invasive procedure for occluding blood vessels to stop blood flow, is one of the fastest-growing interventional procedures in interventional radiology. Parallel to the growing importance of embolization, especially in benign diseases and bleeding, embolic materials are also continually increasing and improving. This course aims to give participants an overview of embolization with liquids and particles and to teach them in in vivo and ex vivo hands-on workshops how to use these appropriately in clinical practice.
Due to the similarity between the anatomy of pigs and humans, pigs are used in the in vivo workshops to learn how to use sclerosants, liquid embolics, gelfoam, and particles. In addition, participants attend ex vivo workshops and train on models, giving them the valuable opportunity to interact personally with the faculty experts. At additional parallel stations, participants can familiarize themselves with various embolic materials (liquid and particulate) and train on simulators.
Organized by Prof. Bernhard Gebauer, featuring a team of expert faculty members, this course will ensure that participants acquire deep knowledge of all innovations and technical characteristics related to liquid and non-liquid embolization (excluding coils and plugs).
Who should attend?
This course is designed for interventional radiologists who have completed their radiology training and are interested in fine-tuning their practical skills and learning more about the current treatment options for routine as well as technically challenging cases.
