ET 2024 took place in Vienna, Austria, from June 1-4 this year. ET, the European Conference on Embolotherapy, was created to ensure that practitioners have a dedicated platform for learning and exchanging on one of IR’s most important topics.
This year’s ET brought together expert faculty members and practitioners from the European embolotherapy community and beyond for four days of exciting lectures and productive discussions throughout innovative session formats.
The 2024 Scientific Programme Committee, headed by Chairperson Otto van Delden and Deputy Chairperson Pierleone Lucatelli, created an expansive programme including both established therapies and new topics. Highlights this year included MSK, women’s and men’s health, TACE for HCC, lymphatics, and more.
New this year, the morning plenary sessions were followed by “deep dive sessions,” which expanded on the earlier-discussed topics and allowed more time for questions and conversations with the experts.

Onsite attendees had the option of three hands-on topics.
On the first day of the congress, two plugs and coils sessions covered various types of coils and plugs, including their deployment techniques and pros and cons in clinical settings. Sunday saw a liquids and particles focus, including information on the various types of liquid and particulate embolic agents available, their specific advantages and disadvantages, and their respective indications.
Finally, on Monday, participants could learn about microcatheters and microwires, including different sizes, diameters, mechanical characteristics, specific employments, techniques, and pros and cons in clinical settings. The lecture portion also included the newest developments in steerable microcatheters and balloon-occlusion microcatheters.
CIRSE’s initiatives were onsite with booths and engaging activities for congress-goers.
EBIR hosted a question and answer session for candidates hoping to pass the European Board of Interventional Radiology this year. Dr. Doortje Rothfuchs, who successfully sat the exam last year, was at the booth to answer questions about the fully digital remote format and how to prepare for the exam.
ESIR, in cooperation with Mentice, stirred up some competitive spirit, allowing registrants to fine-tune their skills and navigate complex PAE and UAE procedures on the latest VIST G7 simulator.
CIRSE’s journals also had a strong showing at the congress, offering a CVIR endovascular workshop on tricky topics in ethical publishing as well as an instant feedback session where participants could have their papers reviewed by the editors ahead of publication. Both CVIR and CVIR Endovascular also held fun quizzes with registration for CIRSE 2024 as an enticing prize.
Representatives from IASIOS, Next Research, and the Online Education team were all also present and ready to answer questions at their booths.
