In late March, Prof. Joachim Kettenbach, one of the great advocates and innovators of interventional radiology, passed away at the age of 62.
In his many years heading Austria’s largest institute for diagnostic, interventional, and nuclear medicine at the Landesklinikum Wiener Neustadt, Prof. Kettenbach was an inspiration to all who had the honour of working with him, motivating his colleagues with his enthusiasm, passion for innovation, and commitment to advancing interventional radiology.
In a statement issued by his hospital, he was described as a person whose great skill was creating an atmosphere of visionary work while being a recognized researcher, teacher, and caring head of institute. Prof. Kettenbach was always ahead of his time, constantly thinking about how to further improve the field’s developments and create the advances of tomorrow. Even in the last few weeks of his life and despite his severe illness, it was always important to him to discuss decisions for his institute with the medical director.
