2020 was, by all accounts, a special year, presenting us with unprecedented challenges. However, I think that the IDEAS programme committee rose to the occasion, converting the most comprehensive, interdisciplinary aortic meeting into an interactive online format, thus ensuring that aortic education and the dialogue between interventional radiology and surgery continued undisrupted. I am happy to announce that preparations for IDEAS 2021 are already in full swing, and we are hopeful that we will be able to meet in Lisbon to discuss the challenges of our field.
At IDEAS 2021, a faculty of world-renowned experts will host six focus sessions as well as numerous expert round-tables and case-based discussions, presenting state-of-the-art technology and scrutinising the latest evidence. Stroke prevention as well as refining endovascular interventions for aortic arch pathology will be thoroughly discussed. In a video learning session, expert operators will demonstrate tips and tricks and discuss lessons learned.
A new session entitled “Amazing aortic interventions” will be dedicated to illustrating extreme interventions requiring immense creativity. In addition, there will be a dedicated session to present the latest technological developments in endovascular repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. Further foci will explore what we have learned in the management of the most commonly encountered endoleaks as well as aortic dissection; a rich topic with a lot to learn about how and when to intervene.
Expert-led workshops will provide participants with the latest technology and highlight the most practical measures to protect doctors and nurses from radiation hazards as well as polishing the skills of the rising generation in standard and in complex endovascular aortic repair.
I look forward to seeing you all in September!
