Prostate Embolisation, Milan/IT, October 21-22, 2021
In prostate artery embolisation microspheres are used to block the blood supply to the prostate in order to improve lower urinary tract symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. This procedure has been gaining popularity in recent years, as patient benefits have already been shown in short- and mid-term results. Despite the fact that until now PAE has been mostly used for patients who are unsuitable for surgery, it has the potential to become an alternative for many other patients, such as younger patients with BPH and LUTS wishing to avoid surgery, and patients suffering from chronic indwelling urinary catheter.
Physicians taking part in this year’s ESIR course on prostate embolisation organised by Dr Antonio Rampoldi at the AIMS Academy will learn about patient selection (taking into account factors such as the vascular anatomy of the prostatic gland, the mechanism of urinary obstruction, size of the gland, presence of third lobe, etc.), technical aspects (use of cone beam CT, catheter, guidewire and embolic agent selection, etc.), clinical results and follow-up.
The theoretical part of the course will be complemented by two live cases moderated by expert panellists.
PAE SIMULATOR TRAINING
As an additional feature of the course, participants will be able to improve their skills on the latest prostate embolisation simulation technology during training sessions taking place throughout the two days.
These training sessions will run parallel to several sessions in the scientific programme and attendees will be able to participate in groups to learn more about the challenging procedure.
