Course Description

Practical skills will be broken down into simple step by step algorithms to obtain a successful technical and clinical outcome. Workshops will offer further practical advice including how to stay out of trouble, how to get out of it if you have not managed the former and when to call for help. The invited speakers are European experts in their field.

Programme

PTC indications, technique and complications
M. Mizandari (Tbilisi/GEO)
• To understand the indications of PTC, different approaches and devices.
• To understand the PTC techniques using different type (Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Combined Ultrasound-
Fluoroscopy, CT guidance) imaging guidance
• To choose the most appropriate technique based on clinical and imaging data
• To define complications and their prophylaxis

Biliary patency

• To understand the indications for biliary patency percutaneal restoration (BPPR)
• To learn the types of BPPR techniques and to understand the indications of each of them
• To understand the advantages and disadvantages of different BPPR techniques and to learn how to choose
the most appropriate one
• To discuss the contraindications and complications

RF Ablation of primary and secondary liver tumours

• To understand the technical details and the indications of radiofrequency ablation in primary and secondary liver tumours
• To define the contraindications, results and complications of radiofrequency ablation.
• To appreciate the role of radiofrequency ablation and combined

Management of primary liver tumours with chemoembolisation (TACE)

• To learn the indications for chemoembolisation (TACE) of HCC
• To learn the correct technique of conventional TACE with drug and lipiodol
• To learn about new techniques such as TACE with drug-eluting beads
• To review the results of conventional TACE and TACE with drug-eluting beads
• To discuss the contraindications and complications of TACE
