Congress & Meetings
Since its first meeting in 1985, the CIRSE annual congress has become the leading European platform for interventionists. Featuring more than 100 hours of sessions, hands-on workshops and symposia, CIRSE offers its nearly 5,000 participants the ideal opportunity to increase their knowledge on image-guided minimally invasive procedures and to present their latest research findings.
Past congresses have taken place in such cities as Barcelona, Nice and Rome, the community’s interest in the congress increasing strongly every year, from 300 attendees in 1993 to more than 5,300 in 2009. The congresses format has also seen a strong development over the years, evolving into an interactive programme featuring the entire range of modern conference features. Additionally to its annual meeting CIRSE offers educational spring meetings alternately focusing on Embolization and Interventional Oncology. The next spring meeting will be ECIO – European Congress of Interventional Oncology – which will take place in Florence April 21-24, 2010 followed by the GEST Europe - Global Embolization Symposium and Technologies in 2011.
In order to cater to the educational needs of interventional radiologists and other medical professionals throughout the year, CIRSE offers an educational online database - ESIR.org - featuring videos, PowerPoint presentations from past CIRSE congresses. Bringing IR education to young interventionists across Europe, CIRSE also organises numerous courses on specific procedures throughout the year in the framework of the European School of Interventional Radiology ESIR.
